Dubai’s Emirates launched back in 2016 its “Green Operating Procedures” (Green Ops) initiative, taking a multi-faceted approach to reducing fuel use both on the ground and in-flight. This effort is led by an internal cross-functional Operations Efficiency Steering Group, with the goal of mitigating unnecessary fuel burn and emissions while maintaining the highest safety standards.
In a recent report, Emirates highlighted the progress of its Green Ops program. During the 2023-2024 financial year, these initiatives helped the airline reduce fuel consumption by over 48,000 tons and cut carbon emissions by more than 151,000 tons.
“We’re proud of the work done across the Flight Operations team, and the contributions of our pilots in significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions,” said Captain Hassan Al Hammadi, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President of Flight Operations. “This could have only happened through collective discipline, commitment, and dedication to sustainable aviation practices in the cockpit, all while maintaining the highest levels of safety.”
Emirates has equipped its pilots with the latest tools and applications to monitor and optimize their flight performance, helping them improve awareness of how their flying techniques impact fuel usage and emissions. The airline says it will continue investing in cutting-edge technologies and accelerating solutions that yield long-term environmental benefits.
